Bishop Hugh R. Edwards, age 86, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 in a local hospital. Bishop Edwards was the son of the late Gertrude Foltz Edwards and Hugh R. Edwards. His first wife, Wanda Tomlinson Edwards also preceded him in death. Bishop Edwards was born in Detroit, Michigan and was a graduate of Cass Technical School. It was there where he learned the Printing Trade. Because of his Printing expertise he served as Manager of the White Wing Publishing House for the Church of God of Prophecy for a number of years. For several years he served as Area Manager for Bell and Howell, Addressograph and Multigraph publishing equipment companies. Bishop Edwards pastored several churches and served as State Overseer for Alabama, California, Illinois and Wisconsin. He also served as National Overseer for Canada. He also served the International Offices for the Church of God of Prophecy as Field Secretary for the General Overseer. He was a licensed broker for J. C. Bradford Company. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran. He loved to read and sail and fancied himself as an excellent Sail Boat Captain! Bishop Edwards was a member of the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy.Survivors include his current wife of 15 years, Rosita Edwards of Cleveland, his daughter, Victoria Hernandez and her husband Luis of Riverside, California, his son, Pastor Michael Edwards and his wife Cindy of Charleston, South Carolina, his grandchildren, Carolina Tamayo and her husband Ernie, Dr. Lisa Hernandez, his great grandchildren, Alina Tamayo Garcia and her husband Daniel, Mia Tamayo and Lily Tamayo, his sister, Evelyn Young and her husband Frank of Michigan and several nieces and nephews also survive.The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 11:00 A. M. from the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy with Pastor Don Markham, Pastor Brian Sutton, Bishop Sam Clements, Pastor Michael Edwards, Reverend John Payne and Reverend Cathy Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Members of the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A. M. Thursday just before the service at 11:00 at the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy. The Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel has charge of the arrangements.
