Summer Joy Propes, age 28, a resident of Ooltewah, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in a Chattanooga health care facility. Summer was preceded in death by her Maternal grandmother, Loray Herring Perkins, her Paternal grandparents, Jewell D. Propes and Hoke S. Propes, her aunt, LaJuana Perkins and her uncle, Lamar Perkins. Being special needs didn't stop Summer from graduating High School. She loved watching the Disney Channel, riding her Adult Miami Sun Trike, her Build a Bears and she loved to eat! Summer loved people and she was a member of the North Cleveland Church of God.Survivors include her mother and father, LaQuita Joy Propes and Dr. M. Thomas Propes of Ooltewah, Tennessee, her brother, Reverend Matthew Thomas Propes and his wife Jennifer of Tifton, Georgia, her nephew, Mark Thomas Propes, her maternal grandfather, Reverend Virgil L. Perkins and his wife Joyce of Whigham, Georgia, her aunt, Beverly Perkins, her cousin, Victor Perkins both of Brunswick, Georgia, her God Sister, Angel Flournoy of Athens, Georgia and several other extended family members and friends also survive.The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2:00 P. M. from the North Cleveland Church of God, Main Sanctuary with Dr. David Griffis, Dr. Tim Hill, Dr. Mark Williams and Reverend Matthew T. Propes officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rob Bailey, Gary Lewis, Jim Spivey, Dr. Kevin Henry M.D., Lexi Bailey and Michael Reynolds serving as active casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be, Ron Martin, Murray Hand, Eddie Allen, David Blair, Dwight Spivey, Martin Taylor, Thomas Gillum, Norman Black, Bill Claypoole, Kip Box and Tim Cushman. The family request that in lieu of flowers, Memorials be made in Summer's name to Church of God World Missions, 2490 Keith Street N. W. Cleveland, Tennessee 37311. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 2:00 Friday at the North Cleveland Church of God, Main Sanctuary. The Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel has charge of the arrangements. I remember Summer as a beautiful little girl during the Propes' tenure as Overseers in Illinois. She was always smiling and impeccably dressed like the angel she was and now completely is. Prayers for comfort go out to Bishop and LaQuita Propes.

My heartfelt condolences to Summer's family. My heart aches that such a beautiful spirit is no longer with us but I rejoice knowing that she is an angel in heaven. I had the privilege of knowing Summer and her family both as a caregiver and friend. I will miss her unconditional love, frequent hugs, beautiful smile and ability to enjoy life. She often stated she had the 'best parents in the world' and was very secure in their love and her faith in God. She had a way of impacting your life in very subtle ways, teaching you how to be patient, accepting and to enjoy love and life in it's simplest forms. I never had the privilege of meeting Summer, but I know she was special in many ways. Her father was always so thoughtful to take a special treat to her and it was usually a pumpkin muffin! I saw in her smile that she lived life to its fullest capacity. Summer lived a beautiful life in all the ways that truly matter. You will be missed but treasured by many.

Summer never met a stranger and she loved everyone. She was the most completely innocent person I have ever known. In her all too brief life, Summer only knew love. Her smile was electric and her excitement contagious. Our hearts are broken for the Propes family but Summer's JOY is complete.
