Blanche Dodson Stone died Saturday morning, August 29, Cleveland, TN., at the age of 87. She was the faithful wife and ministerial partner of her husband, Rev. Hoyt E. Stone, for 65 years and spent 48 of those years here in Cleveland and Bradley County. Blanche and her husband served five pastorates in Virginia. She was a skilled musician and often sang solos. She also served four years as State Secretary for the Church of God in Virginia, during the tenure of her husband as State Youth and Christian Education Director. Blanche earned an elementary teaching degree from Lee College (now Lee University) at age 38 and became an avid teacher of children for the next 27 years, 20 of those years at Mayfield’s first and second grades. While teaching, Blanche became a cancer victim. Thanks to a skilled physician, William Johnson, Bradley Memorial Hospital (now Tennova), and the grace of God, she remained a 26-year survivor. Blanche is survived by her husband, Hoyt E. Stone; two sons-Dr. H Eddie Stone (Sherri), a Lee University professor, and Vince Anthony Stone (Tena), professional librarian and local business entrepreneur-along with four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one sister Brenda Hopkins (husband Dennis), Danville, VA., a number of cousins, along with many friends from the North Cleveland Church of God where she has been a member since 1968. The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 7:00 P. M. at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with brothers-in-law, Rev. Jimmy Stone and Dr. H. Lynn Stone officiating. Graveside Services and Interment will be held private for the family at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
