Click to view the serviceDavid B. Lorency, 75, president of Operation Compassion, passed from this life to the next suddenly on April 3, 2020. He was born August 27, 1944 in Norfolk, Va. He loved his Lord, his family, his church, and it was “good to be Davey.”Dave met his wife of 54 years, Laura, at a Church of God District Youth Rally. They spent 48 years in ministry starting with outreach coffee shops for sailors and street witnessing in Norfolk, Va. Throughout his ministry, he served as state youth director, state evangelism director and pastor, but his passion was serving those in need through humanitarian relief. His generosity was legendary and made an impact around the world. Dave was truly one of kind!Dave is survived by his wife, Laura; four daughters and sons in law; Michelle and Kurt Schulz, Lisa and Gary Boen, Dawn and Kevin Bixler, Jennifer and Steve Hall; grandchildren; Lindsay (Jason) Williford, Stacy (Aaron) Egleston, Kathryn Schulz, Zachary Lorency, Baylee Boen, Haley Diffley, Emily (Delo) McWilliams, John Bixler, Jack Schulz, Luke Bixler, and Toby Ginn; great-grandchildren; Emma, Brody, Jackson, William, Lily, Odessa, Charlotte, and Ezra.The Remembrance of Life Graveside Service and Interment will be held private for the family. Back in 1986 Pastor Lorency helped my father get his first church assignment that would take us to Kansas. We were on our way and got to Flagstaff and had an accident that delayed us for a couple of days while my parents figured out what to do about moving stuff, since a trailer was damaged. Pastor Dave was able to get us a 26' truck at a much cheaper rate that allowed us the ability to finish our trip to Kansas. It was at that first church where I met and married my husband as well as birthed all 4 of my children. Thank you so much for pouring into the lives of others.I will always remember what he has done for our family.
A few years ago when hurricane Harvey hit Texas with a vengeance he mobilized Operation Compassion to come help us with several trucks loaded with supplies. It is for that reason that all my amazon purchases are done in a way that Operation Compassion gets a percentage of my purchases.

Sincere condolences. Dave was our youth Director in Chicago Metro where we met him for the first time. He believed in me and showed me incredible honor and respect. He empowered me and became a connection for the future. I credit where I am today with Dave’s influence. He mentored me in ways I don’t even think he realized. I will be eternally grateful for his kindness shown to me. Surely his reward is great for so many lives impacted by his love and compassion.
