Duel Lee Hale, 70, of Cleveland, TN, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday September 9, 2018 after a 2-year battle with colon cancer. He was born the 4th of 5 kids to the late Orin & Ruth Hale in Soddy Daisy, TN.Duel was very well known in the community for his many years of service to our youth and adults by serving as an umpire for the Cleveland/Bradley County Umpires Association. Whether it was umpiring, playing softball, or just cheering on his friends, you could always find him at one of the local ball parks.He was retired from BFI where he spent many years as a truck driver. He also worked for several years as a Corrections Officer for the Bradley County Sheriffs Office.Duel was a decorated Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, & Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Device. Duel is preceded in death by his parents Orin & Ruth Hale, his Mother & Father-In-Law Ed & Dorothy Parker, his wife, Sue Parker Hale, and his brother, Robert HaleHe is survived by his twin sons Ricky Hale and Mickey Hale of Cleveland, TN, his 3 grandkids whom he loved very much, Dylan, Emalee, and Allyson Hale of Sweetwater, TN, his brother, Sam Hale and his wife Carolyn of Hixson, TN, his 2 sisters, Lavera Campbell of Sale Creek, TN, Retha Giles and her husband Dennis of Suck Creek Mountain, TN, sister-in-law, Jo Hale of Ooltewah, TN. He is also survived by his brother/sister-in-law, Eddie and Nina Parker of Cleveland, TN and brother-in-law, Jeff Parker of Cleveland, TN, and Larry Casson of Cleveland, whom he thought of as his son, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 11:00 A. M. at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with Reverend Cliff Howard officiating. Graveside services and Interment will follow at 1:00 P. M. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Trevor Casson, Junior Morgan, John Hale, Kenny Hawk, David Ledford, & Joe Parker serving as casket bearers. Military honors will be given. The family would like to give a special thanks to Rebecca Barnes from Hearth Hospice, the entire medical team and front office staff of Tennessee Oncology, Dr. Janet Coombs, and Dr. Eston Wenger for your great care of Duel for the past 2 years. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 P. M. on Wednesday at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel who has charge of the arrangements.
