Essie Dills Day a resident of Cleveland passed away Monday August 31, 2020 at the family residence. Essie was a life-long member of Ball Play Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching the Junior Sunday School Class and singing in the choir. She sang for many years with The Day Family at different churches, funerals and revivals. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, especially at Thanksgiving, her favorite holiday. She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years Kenneth Day, her son in law Herbert Fansler, and her daughter in law Patricia Day. She was also preceded in death by her parents Willie and Lola Dills, her brothers Charlie, Edward, Olen, Robert and Wilburn Dills, her sisters Dorothy Cates, Lois Green, Minnie Hawkins and Willie Mae Watson. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Mary Fansler, her son Darrell Day, her grandsons Tracy Fansler and his wife Becky, Darren Fansler and his wife Tammy, Dustin Day and his wife Julie, granddaughters Tanna Whaley and her husband Eddie and Brittany Day. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. A Remembrance of Life Service will be held at 2 o’clock Sunday at Ball Play Baptist Church with Rev. Darren Fansler, Rev. Matthew Harris and Rev. Charles Moore officiating. The interment will follow at the church cemetery with Dustin Day, Eddie Whaley, Ethan Whaley, Dakota Fansler, Dalton Fansler, David Hawkins and Blake Gibson serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 until 8pm at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services Wildwood Ave. Chapel and from 1 until 2pm Sunday at the Church. Honorary pallbearers include Buster Cates, Junior Cates, Greg Dills, Gary Dills, Steve Dills, Willie Dills, AJ Green and Rocky Green. The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga, Faye Hall and Patsy Humberd for providing wonderful care for Essie. Also thanks to those who have provided food, visitations, comfort and prayers. The family request that all food be brought to the church for a meal after the funeral.
