George O. Meacham Jr., age 86, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022 at the family residence following a short illness. George was born in Chattanooga and he was the son of the late Laura Mae Ledford Meacham and George Meacham Sr. He was a former resident of Rossville, Georgia where he graduated from Rossville High School. After graduation he received an engineering degree from Georgia Tech. He began his career in the textile industry with Peerless Woolen Mills in Rossville and later with Burlington Industries in Cleveland. George later operated the Cleveland Wash-a-teria from 1974 until his retirement in 1998. George served on the Cleveland City School Board representing District 1, where he has lived for the past 40 years. He served in the Air National Guard and he was an avid sports fan, car racing enthusiast and car owner racing at the Cleveland Speedway. George was a Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket through and through!Survivors include several cousins in the Cleveland and Rossville, Georgia area.The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted on Sunday, August 28 at 3 P. M. at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with Reverend Tom Wickes officiating. Interment will follow in the Lee Cemetery with family serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 P. M. Sunday at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel who has charge of the arrangements.
