Harvey Harkins
January 22, 1936 - August 24, 2020
Harvey Harkins, age 84, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday evening at the family residence. Harvey was born in Calhoun, Georgia and he was the son of the late Vertie Irene Lafever Harkins and Dorsey Harkins. His brother, Jesse Harkins and his nephew, Luke Harkins also preceded him in death. Harvey graduated High School in Calhoun, Georgia and he received his Bachelors degree in Christian Education from Lee College, now Lee University. He also received his teaching certificate to teach Spanish and did so at McMinn Central High School. There was not much that Harvey could not do! He worked for Lockheed Corporation, he owned and operated the Men's Den for many years, he was a Barber and he was a U. S. Army Veteran. He served on many mission trips to Spain, Germany, Honduras and to Guatemala. He also served as Director of the Casa Shalom Orphanage in Guatemala. Along with his wife Patty, they owned and operated Great American Cookies in the Bradley Square Mall. Harvey loved to sing and would travel and sang with his brothers. Harvey was a long time member of the North Cleveland Church of God. Survivors include his wife Patty of Cleveland, his daughter, Donna Harkins Glass and her husband Chris also of Cleveland, his sister, Sue Brown and her husband Joe, his brother, David Harkins and his wife Patsy all of Cartersville, Georgia and his many beloved nieces and nephews also survive. The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 12:00 P. M. at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with Pastor Mark Williams, Reverend David Munguia and Pastor Mitch Maloney officiating. Graveside Services and Interment will be conducted at 5:00 P. M. on Saturday at the Fain Cemetery in Calhoun, Georgia with Anthony Lombard, Don Warrington, Tom Harkins, Ron Davis, Jim Gibson, Carlos Veliz, Eddie Jones, John Franklin, Ziidee Baridor, and Luis Velasquez serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P. M. on Friday at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel who has charge of the arrangements.
