PASTOR HERBERT E. CONLEYHerbert E. Conley, age 82 went to be with the Lord peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023, in his home with his loving family by his side.Herbert E. Conley: Husband, Father, “Buckay”, Brother, Uncle. Herbert carried many titles in his unwavering desire to exhibit his love and affection for his family, not only by words, but by deeds. None of us will ever know the number of sacrifices he made for his family and friends. His family considers it an honor and a joy to carry on this wonderful legacy of love to future generations.A devoted Christian, a man of high integrity that would accept nothing less than doing his best and expected the same of others. He was a generous role model for his children and grandchildren. They cherish the examples of strength, persistence, and faith that was reflected in the way their father/ grandfather lived his life. We loved him dearly and we miss him very much.Herbert also wore many hats professionally: Pastor, Chaplain, Electrician, Farmer. Herb was Pastor of Cleveland Cornerstone Church for almost 17 years. He was Chaplain at the Bradley County Justice Center for 40 years. He always said this was his favorite job, although he was never paid to do it. Herbert was an electrician and proud member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 175 for 60 years. He cherished the friendships he made during his time with IBEW. Herb worked most of his career with Duncan Electric serving for many years at M&M Mars in Cleveland.Farming held a special place in Herb’s heart. Most farmers will tell you they don’t do it for the money and that was especially true for Herb. Much of his time was spent helping his brothers on their farms. He was happiest on a tractor mowing a hayfield or plowing Hubert’s field for the sunflowers.Herbert also enjoyed attending auctions to collect antiques and old farm implements. He loved old cars, especially ones that he and his twin brother Hubert owned when they were young. El Caminos were another of his favorites. He finished his life with two in collectible condition and two in the barn he always planned to restore. Herb enjoyed attending monthly car shows. We will never know the numbers of people Herbert ministered to on the job, in the jail or from the pulpit. He was always willing to help others. He always said if you want to help someone, you start by getting their heart right and everything will begin to fall into place after that.He was preceded in death by his parents Dean and Ina Belle (Poteet) Conley; one very special grandson Justin Fowler; and his nephew Hubert Conley, Jr. Herbert always treasured a birthday gift he received from Justin. The memory always brought a smile to his lips and tears to his eyes.Herbert will be forever loved and remembered by his wife of 59 years Priscilla Hannah Conley and the daughters he adored, Alisa (Barry) Fowler and Amy Conley-Moore. He was so proud of his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to brag about them: Jacob Fowler, Caleb Fowler, Hannah Grace Moore, Evan Moore, and Isabel Moore and great granddaughter Skylar Mieseler. Herbert’s love for his brothers was second to none: Hubert (Beverly) Conley, David (Von) Conley, LeBron (Karen) Conley. He dearly loved his nephews and niece and had a special relationship with each of them: David Conley, Jr., Allison (Parker) Randolph, and Brandon (Kaylee) Conley. Great niece and nephew Summer and Trevor Conley. Brother-in-law Rodney (Mary Ann) Hannah.Special thanks to a very special nurse that now feels like family, Bridgette Campbell.A Celebration of Life service will be held at Cleveland Cornerstone Church, 533 Broad Street, Cleveland, Tennessee on Friday, September 8th at 7:00 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 3:00 pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor Barry Fowler with music by Caleb Fowler and Jeff Moore.Interment will be held on Saturday, September 9th at 10:00 am at Flint Springs Cemetery with Dylan Artrip, Brandon Conley, David Conley, Jr., Trevor Conley, Caleb Fowler, Jacob Fowler, Evan Moore, and Parker Randolph serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cleveland Cornerstone Church- Jail Ministry (533 Broad Street, Cleveland, Tennessee) or Gideons International (https://www.sendtheword.org).Arrangements by Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel. We are Herbert's, Ohio family and saddened by this news. I have memories of he and Hubert being so very helpful when my grandmother(Bessie) passed away. We had her laid to rest at Mount Carmel. My dad Wallace thought the world of the 'twins'. Many years later..Our 'family reunion' at the cemetery (not really a reunion just that so.many were there it seemed like it.)
May his family find peace at how loved he was and his dedication to church and community.

Memories to cherish

Love,
Jayne (Worley) and sisters Janet, Joyce , Joan and families

My memory of Herb Conley is a man of Integrity. Herb was a compassionate kind man ready to share the hope that he had in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He spoke often of his family that he Loved so dearly. I will be forever greatful for the time that I had the privilege to work for Herb at Duncan Electric many years ago.
We continue to pray for the family as you go through this difficult time.

I had just moved down from Chicago to Cleveland, that's where I first met Herb at a men's fellowship breakfast at Cornerstone, having been invited by my neighbor David. We talked, I learned he was involved in jail ministry, I asked if I could attend a service with him, he said yes, so I served along side him, that was 28 years ago. I always called him my fearless leader, he was fearless in Christ Jesus.I will miss him as a brother in Christ as a mentor in jail ministry and as a friend. Take your rest in Jesus.

Herb was very kind to me as a fellow chaplain at the Bradley County Jail. Being from Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Herb assisted in more ways than I can express. A kind and helpful man that was genuinely concerned about others. Praying for the family. Mitch McClure
