Reverend James Thomas Davis, PHD, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family in Florida on September 15, 2021.He is proceeded in death by his wife of 67 years, Marva Davis, his daughter Brenda Davis, grandson Andy Davis, his parents Garland and Dortha Davis, his siblings Dale Davis and Noveta Crowe.He is survived by his only living sibling, Shirley Scott, his two sons, Hank Davis and Jimmy Davis Jr., daughter-in-laws Rhonda Davis and Sherrie Davis, grandchildren, Carissa Davis, Courtney Brown, Katelyn Davis, Bethany Davis, Christine Davis and 8 great-grand childrenA minister of the gospel, he evangelized all over the world, pastored the Bellflower Church of God from 1960-1990, evangelized again just before fully retiring and then served 15+ years as an elder at South Cleveland Church of God. He earned a PHD in theology, and the title Bishop with the Church of a God of Cleveland TN, neither of which you’d ever heard him brag.A Remembrance of Life Service will be held at 3pm Saturday at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee St. Chapel. The interment will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens. My cousin Jimmy was a special man. He had a way of making everyone feel like his "favorite." How I loved to sit and listen to him teach the word of God. And now, Heaven is just a little sweeter. My sister Charlotte and I send love and prayers for Shirley, Jimmy Jr, Hank and their families. May the Peace of God be with you.
I have many fond memories of Jimmy and his family. Jimmy's dad and my mom were siblings so when Jimmy,Marva and the boys would spend their summer vacations back in Oklahoma to visit family they would spend a night with us at our farm north of Prague. One of their annual visits Jimmy took me squirrel hunting on our farm. Hank and Jimmy Jr were too young to go hunting so Jimmy and I took our hunting dog Spot who by the way loved to hunt. We came back with several squirrels so guess what we had for supper. Yep fried squirrel. Those were the good old days. RIP my cousin. Roger Nelson
