Joel Andrew McClung, 40, a resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed into the presence of God on Thursday, May 10, 2018. Joel was born into a missionary family in Schorndorf, Germany where he was loved and nurtured by the community of the European Bible Seminary and his local church in the village of Krehwinkel. His first languages were English and German. In Cleveland, he was reared in the children’s and student ministries of Westmore Church of God where he was a member at the time of his death. He is survived by his daughter, Chloe Watts-McClung; his parents, Grant and Janice McClung; his brother and family, Matthew McClung (all of Cleveland); relatives and friends in Cleveland; and an extended family across the United States. Through his missions heritage, his church family stretches around the world. He is a graduate of Cleveland High School and an alumnus of Cleveland State Community College. He was a professional in the Hospitality Industry, serving in five-star hotels and resorts in the Mountain West of the United States, where he was celebrated with numerous honors for his exceptional service. Locally, he was a Chef with the international Sodexo Company through the Lee University Dining Services where he was known for his kindness, service, and disciplined work ethic. His love for the outdoors brought him much enjoyment with family and friends through white water rafting/kayaking, hiking, and snowboarding. He loved to serve others with his gift as a chef, and brought joy to many (with his brother, cousins, nephew, and friends) as a talented musician. Joel was known for his love for his family, his respect for his Pentecostal heritage, and his loyalty to his friends. The Remembrance of Life service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Westmore Church of God in Cleveland at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kelvin Page, Dr. Grant McClung, Reverend Alan McClung, and Dr. John Sims officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery in McDonald, Tennessee with Matthew McClung, Gregg McClung, Kris Battle, Russell Pottorff, Gabriel Crawford, Mark Vest, Todd Davis and Mark Hand serving as casket bearers.
