Mary Stephens Painter, age 77, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday evening, November 20, 2018 in a local health care facility. She was the daughter of the late Edna Mae Weaver Stephens and Reverend James A. Stephens. Her husband, David Painter, her niece, Lori Jo Roberts and her brother in law, Roy Sherlin also preceded her in death. Mrs. Painter was a graduate of Lee University and she received her Teaching Certification from Peabody College in Nashville. She received her Masters degree from Middle Tennessee State University. She taught Elementary School in the Cleveland City School Systems for more than 30 years. She was also a Supervisor for Student Teachers at Lee University with 10 years of service. She was an avid reader and she enjoyed traveling. She supported many local charities including, the Caring Place, Samaritan House and New Hope Pregnancy Care Center. Most of all, she was dedicated to her church and to her family. Mrs. Painter was a Charter Member of the Westmore Church of God where she sang in the choir and was apart of the Enetha Circle.Survivors include her daughter, Kelly McCain of Cleveland, her son, Mike Painter and his wife Ashley also of Cleveland, her sisters, Judy Gee and her husband Ted and Alice Sherlin, her brother, Bishop J. David Stephens and his wife Joyce all of Cleveland and several nieces and nephews also survive.The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Monday, November 26, 2018 at 1:00 at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with Reverend Max Morris and Pastor Kelvin Page officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with James Roberts, Robert Roberts, Chris Gee, Brent Stephens, J. J. Chiara and Lindsay Hathcock serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 1:00 on Monday at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel who has charge of the arrangements.
