Mary Ruth Miller Thornton, age 90, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 in a local hospital. Mrs. Thornton was born March 18th, 1929 and she was the daughter of the late Josie and Charlie Elrod. Her first husband, Cash "Chub" Miller, her son, Randall "Randy" Miller, her sister, Helen Reed and her brothers, Clarence, Vance and Paul Elrod also preceded her in death. Mrs. Thornton worked as a substitute teacher at Bradley Central High School and Walker Valley with over 35 years of service. She loved to sew, decorating bears and she was affectionately known as the "Bear Lady" She was considered the best cook anywhere! All that knew her loved her! She was a loving wife, mother and Nana/grandmother. Mrs. Thornton loved Jesus and loved talking about him to others. She was a member of the Bellfounte Baptist Church.She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, William E. "Bill" Thornton of Cleveland, her daughters, Brenda Miller, Donna Bacon and her husband Joe her step daughters, Congetta "Connie" Broomfield and her husband L. A., Donna Rinker and her husband Scott and Lafonda McRae, her daughter in law, Terri Miller, her grandchildren, Kelly Hoog and her husband Greg, Ashley Sovastion and her husband Michael, Mollie Childs and her husband Matt, Zac Miller and his wife Maranda, her 8 great grandchildren, her special friend, Bobbie Harris and several nieces and nephews also survive.The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 7:00 P. M. at the North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services with Reverend Mark Cameron and Reverend Eric Green officiating. Graveside services and Interment will be conducted on Monday at 11:00 A. M. at the Candies Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Greg Hoog, Michael Sovastion, Benny Atchley, Joe Bacon, L. A. Broomfield and Chuck DeFriese serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 until the service at 7:00 P. M. at the North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services who has charge of the arrangements.
