December 14, 1931 - August 25, 2021
Mildred (Audie) Green passed away at home on August 25, surrounded by friends and family. She was born December 14th, 1931 in Cleveland, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Lela and Millard Hampton. She spent her childhood struggling to survive the Great Depression and World War II, but she turned these early hardships into the traits that made her so loved by so many: faith in Christ, gratitude for everything she had, and a determination to ensure her loved ones never had to endure the hardships that she did. She met her late husband, Kenneth Floyd Green of Cleveland, down by the mailbox when he was visiting his parents nearby. After they married, she supported him as he moved all over the country for work, often taking long shifts and seven-day weeks to support his family. When Kenneth was diagnosed with COPD and Alzheimer’s, Mildred spent years caring for him with characteristic diligence and compassion. Mildred is survived by her sister, Pat Cartwright, her brother, Jim Hampton, her three daughters Elizabeth Goodwin, Rachel Green, and Carol Green, son -in -laws Daniel Goodwin and Harry DeLorme, grandchildren Sarah Holder and husband Joey Holder, Jacob Goodwin, Caleb DeLorme, and great grandchild Ethan Holder. She is predeceased by her infant son, Jerry. Though Mildred as a child often went hungry, she made sure that her children and grandchildren were always greeted by their favorite dishes when they came to visit, plus home-made jelly to take home. Though Mildred knew what it was like to go without heat in the winter, she made sure her guests were always sweating in the heat of her wood-burning stove. Mildred learned early on to rely on Jesus, and religion was always the center of her life. She was the longtime caretaker of Mount Bethel Cemetery, and a faithful attendee of Sunday school classes at East Side Church of Christ. Her knowledge of the scriptures was matched only by the kindness with which she treated all those around her. That kindness won her many special friends including Terry and Jennifer MacDougal, Sheila Phillips and others who will greatly miss her. A Remembrance of Life Service will be held graveside Saturday at 11 am at Mount Bethel Cemetery with Minister Bill Maynard officiating. Casket bearers will be Caleb Delorme, Jacob Goodwin, Joey Holder, Ethan Holder, Steven Cartwright and Larry Davis. Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services Wildwood Ave. Chapel has charge of the arrangements.
