Noretta Kay Medford of Cleveland, Tennessee passed Friday morning, April 1, 2022 in Franklin, Tennessee where she was living near her daughter. Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 4 at Jim Rush Funeral Home in Cleveland, with services at 1 p.m. and interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens to follow.Noretta was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Harold D. Medford, and their son David Medford. She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Bowden, Deanna’s husband Todd Bowden and their children, Bridgit and Bennett. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Kay Medford and Kay and David’s son, William Medford. She was a beloved aunt and in-law.Noretta was a teacher at Stuart Elementary, Mayfield Elementary and Cleveland Day School. She especially loved teaching math and cheering on her school athletic teams. She was popular with her students and thanked by many for noticing and nurturing special talents that shaped their lives.She loved spending time with family and friends on Fort Myers Beach, where she would walk with her grandchildren showing them the beautiful creatures and sunsets over the ocean.She was a long-time member of North Cleveland Church of God and a driving force in the Geneva Circle. She was a supporter of the Crusader Choir and enjoyed traveling with the choir.Noretta was born July 16, 1937 to Burt and Annie Laura Dansby of Lakeland, Florida. She attended Lakeland High School and later attended Lee College and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She met Harold at Lee College while attending accounting class taught by Dudley Pyeatt. Harold asked Noretta to attend the Halloween mixer and haunted house. Noretta left Lee College after one semester but Harold followed after her and she married him. They lived in Fort Myers, Florida before moving to Cleveland.A Remembrance of Life Service will be held Monday at 1pm at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee St. Chapel with Pastor Mark Williams officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends Monday from 11am until 1pm at the funeral home.
