Oma Lee Hensley Murray of Charlotte, NC, went to be with her Savior on August 2, 2018, at the age of 89. Born in Madison County, NC on June 18, 1929 Oma Lee, while a young girl, also lived in Asheville, NC, and Seattle, WA. In 1949, Oma Lee married Billy D. Murray and remained his faithful companion for 55 years until his death in 2004. To their union were born three children: Dwayne, Susan, and Beth. Oma Lee was a cherished wife and mother who loved her family well.Soon after their marriage, Billy accepted his call into Christian ministry. From that point forward, Oma Lee served alongside her husband as he ministered in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Illinois, and as a global leader for the Church of God of Prophecy.Oma Lee’s interests included: creative writing, cooking, home decorating, and needlework. She also served as a volunteer hospital aide, Sunday School teacher, and women’s ministry leader and speaker. Her love for God was evident in: Bible study, prayer, and personal encouragement. She was a woman of intelligence and integrity.Oma Lee is preceded in death by her husband, Billy D. Murray; her father, Ulysses Grant Hensley; her mother, Ornan Norton Hensley Fender; her brothers, Brewer Hensley, Eugene Hensley, Jack Hensley; and her son-in-law, Tim Aukerman. She is survived by her son, Dwayne (Sterlene) Murray of Hendersonville, TN; her daughters, Susan (Larry Duncan) of Coweta, OK; and Beth Aukerman of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves behind siblings, Patsy (LWood) Taffer, Roger (Sharon) Fender, and Norma Fender, all of Mars Hill, NC. In addition, she leaves behind grandchildren, John (Leia) Duncan of Waco, TX; Laura (Brandon) Corn of Broken Arrow, OK; Sarah (Daniel) Hobbs of Hendersonville, TN; Kathryn, Emily, and Abigail Aukerman of Charlotte, NC; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Corn and Grace Hobbs.The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 1:00 P. M. from the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with with Bishops Larry Duncan, Benjamin Duncan, and Fred S. Fisher, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with John Duncan, Daniel Hobbs, Morris McAulay, Johnny Vaughn, Perry Horner and David Taylor serving as casket bearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads Community Church, c/o Sherry Vaughn, Treasurer, 8301 Westbourne Drive, Charlotte, NC 28216. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 P. M. Friday at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel who has charge of the arrangements.
