On Tuesday, March 17, 2020, Reverend Orville Hagan passed away at age 83. Orville was born on November 29, 1936 in Harlan, KY. He moved to Oak Ridge, TN a short time later where he lived until he was through middle school. His family then moved to Ft. Wayne, IN which is where he met his sweetheart Vicky Hughes. They met at the Third Street Church of God and attended High School together where they shared the same study hall. They would write notes to each other on the desks and became close. Soon Orville (or Jim as his close family calls him) would become a part of the Hughes family, eating Sunday dinner with them each week after church. Orville and Vicky married on June 18, 1955. They began their family with their first child Abbie and 3 years later their son Greg was born. They were married for 64 years. Orville had a heart for the Lord and became a preacher as a teenager. This was his life work as well as his heart’s desire. He served the Lord preaching for over 65 years. Brother Hagan received his education at the University of Hawaii and received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Lee University in 2003. Reverend Hagan became an internationally known minister in the Church of God, which has a membership of over 7.4 million worldwide. He has served in many administrative capacities as well as a pastor to congregations in Indiana and South Carolina and has spoken in hundreds of denominational meeting around the world including the 1994 General Assembly. He has been the featured speaker in all 50 states and over 100 camp meetings. He has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia and the Caribbean evangelizing the lost and encouraging Gods children. Reverend Hagan has held many capacities including tenures as Second and Third Assistant General Overseer, Director of Evangelism and Home Missions. He was a member of the denominations Council of Eighteen, as well as State Overseer for Virginia, Tennessee, Chicago Metro (now known as Great Lakes Region) and Hawaii. He also served as state Youth and Christian education Director in Kentucky and Pennsylvania. Orville was preceded in death by his father Thomas Hagan (age 50), his sister Dorothy Dunaway, brother Carl Hagan, mother Elizabeth Chance, and brother David Hagan. He is survived by his beautiful wife Vicky, his daughter Abbie Hagan of Cleveland and son Greg Hagan (Sharon) of Lawrenceville, GA. He has 4 awesome grandsons; Chris Barrineau (Nicole), Ross Hagan (Lindsey), Colson Hagan and Preston Hagan. He was also blessed with 4 great grandchildren; Kyndal Whitner (18), Aubrie Maddron (18), Braydon Barrineau (13), and Hudson Hagan (4). A Remembrance of Life Service honoring Dr. Hagan will be Friday March 20, 2020 at 2:00PM with visitation preceding at 11:30 – 1:30 at North Cleveland Church of God, Cleveland Tennessee. The committal service will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
