Patrice Varner McGuire, 47, a resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on May 7, 2019 following a short illness.Patrice was born in New Jersey and attended Harry Truman High School in Philadelphia where she graduated fourth in her class, received the Math and Science Award, was a member of the National Honors Society, and was recognized as the most outstanding female athlete playing three years on the basketball team. She attended Lee University where she was a member of the Ladies of Lee Choir, Delta Zeta Tau Sorority, and the National Honors Society. She received a Bachelor of Science degree, graduating with honors. She continued her education at South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia where she graduated as a registered nurse in 2002.For the past 19 years, Patrice served as a nurse at Tennova Medical Center. Previously she taught science at Cleveland High School. She was an accomplished pianist, serving in multiple local churches, and enjoyed swimming, paddle boarding, crafts, and playing board games with her family.A woman of faith and the heart of her family, Patrice shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and a faithful wife whose greatest passion was helping others.Patrice is survived by her husband Mark McGuire and their three children Tanner McGuire (Cleveland), Jocelyn McGuire (Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico), and Coleman McGuire (Cleveland); father Robert Varner (Cleveland); in-laws Dennis and DeRosa McGuire (Cleveland); brother Robert Varner and his wife, Ginger Varner (Cleveland); sister-in-law Michelle Maggard and her husband, Rob Maggard (Cleveland); and six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda Varner.Friends and family are invited to a viewing at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North. Ocoee Street Chapel on Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. An additional visitation will take place on Friday at the South Cleveland Church of God from 11:00 – 2:00 p.m. The Remembrance of Life Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dennis McGuire, Rev. Chris Moody, Rev. Robert Varner, and Rev. Mark McGuire officiating.In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Patrice Varner-McGuire Nursing Scholarship at Lee University.
