Bishop Perry E. Gillum D.D., age 85, a resident of Cleveland, passed away December 25, 2018 in Clermont, Florida. Bishop Gillum was born in Allen, Oklahoma and he was the son of the late Ruby M. Borden Gillum and Perry J. Gillum. His wife Evelyn Gillum, his daughter, Genise Dotson, his sister, Beverly Smith, his brothers, Bill Gillum, Delbert Gillum, Donald Gillum, Ron Gillum and his step mother Corrine Gillum also preceded him in death. Bishop Gillum was a U. S. Army Veteran. He received his Bachelors Degree from Tomlinson College and his Doctorate from Beacon University. He served 60 years with the Church of God of Prophecy, traveling to 123 countries. He served on many church boards. A resident of Cleveland since 1964, he was well-known in the community and he served on many community boards and foundations. He touched countless people within his ministry and his community. He was considered a mentor to many people. Bishop Gillum loved the water including boating, water skiing, swimming and tubing. He attended the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy. Survivors include his son, Scott Gillum and his wife Brenda of Clermont, Florida, his grandchildren, Brittany Hagy and her husband Jay, Dr. Pierce Gillum, D.O., Ashley Dotson and Zachary Dotson, his great grandchildren, Brielle Hagy and Jax Hagy, his son in law, Joe Dotson of Ooltewah and several nieces and nephews also survive. The Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Friday, January 4, 2019 at 10:00 A. M. at the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy with Bishop Sam Clements, Bishop Tim Coalter, Dr. Billy Wilson, Dr. Lamar Vest, Scott Gillum and Pastor Adam Jones officiating. Graveside Services and Interment will be conducted at 1:30 P. M. Friday at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Bishop Wayne Pense and Bishop Duke Stone officiating.Ron Barker, Steve Gilmer, Joe Parker, Brian Sutton, Dwight Richardson, John Payne serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Greg Cooley, Ken Lyle, Adrian Varlack and Jim Workman.Military honors will be given. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 P. M. Thursday at the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy. The Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel has charge of the arrangements.
