Thomas Eugene “Gene” Morris age 78 a resident of Charleston passed away Tuesday September 11, 2018 at the family residence. He was the son of the late James and Mary Morris and was also preceded in death by his grandson Kevin Holcomb and his sister Betty Miller. Gene was a retired Deputy Sheriff with over 32 years of service. He worked with the Bradley County Sheriff Department and the Polk County Sheriff Department. He also served as Constable in Bradley County. Gene was very involved with the local Republican Party for many years. He loved to garden and mow his yard, of which he was very proud. His love for politics, law enforcement and his yard work paled in comparison to his love for his family and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Pat Morris, his children Michael Morris and his wife Louise, Lynn Morris and his wife Teresa, James Wilson and his wife Teresa, Jeffrey Wilson, Kim Morris, Jan Morris, Deborah Brackett and Ginger Wilson, his grandchildren Melissa Coblentz and her husband Clifford, Ashley Wilson, Matt Morris, Tony Morris, Jessica Thurman, Jeffery Thurman, Jonathan Davis and his wife Lili, Tabitha Davis, Brien Davis and his wife Mary, Katrina Brackett, Anthony Foley, Julia Foley and Beth Wilson, great grandchildren Michael Holcomb, Marilyn Messer, Lex Coblentz, Jace Coblentz, Oliver Coblentz, Jasmin Davis and Erick Davis. Other survivors include his brothers and sisters Leonard Morris, Phil Morris and his wife Joanne, James Morris and his wife Mary, Roger Morris, Mary Lawson, Ellen Ross and Sandy Morris along with several nieces and nephews. A Remembrance of Life Service will be held at 11am Saturday at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee St. Chapel with Chaplain Gary Wilder and Pastor Mike Wallin officiating. The committal service will follow at New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with Jim Ruth, Matt Ruth, PJ Morris, Timmy Morris, Michael Holcomb and Beau Ziegler serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 8pm at the funeral home.
