Tony Dewayne Gates age 46 passed away Saturday September 16, 2017 in a local hospital. Tony was born to George and Diane Gates in Cleveland TN. He was the eldest of two sons and a life-long resident of Cleveland. He was a 1989 graduate of Bradley Central High School and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church where he was on the audio team. Tony had a great love for the mission field in which he was a regular participant. Tony found great joy in helping others and will greatly be missed by his family, friends and all those who knew him. Tony is survived by his parents, his grandmother Edith Gates and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Joe Dale Gates, his grandparents Lonnie Gates, David Thompson, Ann Thompson, his aunts Freda Wilson, Millie Gamble, Judy Gates and his uncle Billy “Catfish” Ledford. A Remembrance of Life Service will be held 11am Wednesday September 20, 2017 at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services Wildwood Ave. Chapel with Rev. Homer Roberts and Pastor Jonathan Powell officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Wesley Gates, Stevey Gates, Aaron Woods, Brian Thompson, Jeff Gates, Tim Wilson, Jimmy John Giles and Christopher Patterson serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 8pm at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services Wildwood Ave. Chapel. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Tony’s honor to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 4452 Bates Pike, Cleveland Tn., 37323.Read Obituary

GOD got a awesome and loving soul. I have known Tony all my life I loved him so much. I know we lost touch through the years but I still had him in my heart. When he worked at the anx building at paytons where he also worked with my husband at the time. When I would go with Dallas to his work we would open the door and he would be asleep with his head down on the desk. That cold air would hit his bald head and would shock him awake. It was so funny. And that laugh was infectious. I'd hear him laugh and I knew it was Tony. Now GOD has him and his beautiful laugh, and a blessed and beautiful soul. Love you Tony and you are going to be greatly missed.Praying for strength and peace in the family love to you all.
