Edith Marie Gates

Edith Marie Gates age 98 a resident of Cleveland passed away Tuesday August 20, 2019 at the family residence. She was the daughter of the late Abe and Vadie Taylor Tanksley and was also preceded in death by her husband Lonnie Otis Gates her son Everett Gates her daughters Freda Wilson and Millie Gamble, her grandsons Tony and Joe Gates and her 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Mrs. Gates was the oldest member, in age and membership, at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian, a wonderful cook and she loved to garden. However her biggest accomplishment was being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and mother in law. She is survived by her children Lonnie “Gene” Gates and his wife Dot, Benjamin “Benny” Gates and his wife Anna Lee, Maurice Gates, George Gates and his wife Dianne, Lawrence Gates and his wife Barbara, Janet Gates and Charles “Pete” Gates, 16 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, her son in law Taylor “Mac” Gamble and two special nieces Barbara Greer and Betty Emmerson. A Remembrance of Life Service will be held at 2 o’clock Friday at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services Wildwood Ave. Chapel with Rev. Tim Woody and Rev. Homer Roberts officiating. The committal service will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with her grandsons serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 8pm at the funeral home.Read Obituary
