Shirley Anne Edwards Hawkins, 89, passed away in Huntsville, Alabama, on Friday, September 20, 2019. Shirley was born in 1930 to Artie Jefferson Edwards and Elma Mays Edwards Anderson in Gretna, Virginia, and was raised in Danville, Virginia. In 1951, Shirley married Charles Hawkins of Choctaw County, Mississippi. Shirley and Charles spent over 50 years ministering together in the Church of God of Prophecy in Cleveland, Tennessee, and around the world. She was by his side until his death in 2016. Shirley was a faithful servant of the Lord who brought joy to everyone she met. She lived a life focused on what was good and sharing the grace of God with others. Shirley was a steadfast prayer warrior and always stood ready to offer encouragement and comfort to others. She will be missed by all who knew her. Shirley will forever be remembered by her son, Charles Hawkins, Jr and his wife, Kelly Clark Hawkins, of Huntsville, Alabama, as well as their three children and their families: Ashley (Zachery) Hawkins Colette, Elijah Colette and Evangeline Colette of Augusta, Georgia; Ryan (Ashley) Hawkins, James Hawkins and Brooke Hawkins of Clarksville, Tennessee; and Daniel Hawkins of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. She is survived by her siblings Jeanette Edwards Kendrick of Danville, Virginia, David (Patricia) Anderson of Marysville, Tennessee, Marion Anderson of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with her beloved husband of 65 years, Shirley is predeceased by her brother, Reuben Anderson of Danville, Virginia. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy at 3301 Peerless Road NW in Cleveland, Tennessee, 37312, with Bishop Adrian Varlack and Reverend Mrs. Londa Richardson. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. that day. Shirley will be laid to rest with her husband, Charles, at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Tuesday October 1, 2019 at 2:30pm.
